A major component of the Bibliothèques de Québec network, the Maison de la littérature houses a public library and a permanent exhibition on Quebec literature, as well as writing studios, a comic book workshop, a creative studio, a writers' residency and, year-round, a varied program of literary events.
The transformation of this historic Quebec City building, which has been associated with culture for decades, required the designers to show originality in order to breathe new life into the building. The inclusion of Montel's innovative shelving concept by Chevalier Morales Architectes resulted in a breathtaking reconfigurable layout.
Montel's Aetnastak shelving units on roller bases enable the Maison de la Littérature teams to reconfigure the space to suit the needs of the events taking place there. If a show requires the room, staff simply move the shelves to free up the space.
